The Gorge (2025)
The world's most dangerous secret lies between them.
Filmmaker(s): Scott Derrickson

Two highly trained operatives grow close from a distance after being sent to guard opposite sides of a mysterious gorge. When an evil below emerges, they must work together to survive what lies within.

The Gorge (2025)

Separations

The formula is pretty straightforward: we discover two profoundly unhappy sniper assassins, put in a mysterious remote coupling. We see the courtship and blossoming romance in the background of unexplained danger.

Then abruptly, the couple is thrust in the midst of crazy CGI combat, a sort of Cold War Pirates of the Caribbean, with an Annihilation flavour. They improbably figure out everything about the place and how to blow it up.

Which they do.

And then rendezvous on a romantic beach.

It likely was pitched with fewer words. I will admit that the setup and courtship was appealing, and actually clever. This is an attractive couple, and I’d put this as a date movie.

I don’t know how long the combat filler was, but it was pretty run of the mill stuff. Guns, tree-people.

Just aside, it seems a goto to have an evil, massively rich and powerful private weapons company, working on the most immoral and evil tech. I’ve had a career ‘on the inside’ and until now have to chuckle when I see one of these maybe a score times a year. But with the changes as I write this, they are coming.
