Sophie’s Choice
Our little family has watched this since the beginning, which I believe was before the COVID lockdowns. It is part of a franchise in other nations — this is the Australian version. I’ve dipped into a few of the other nations and found the ones I saw gimmicky, full of artificial host-based jokes, and not very inspiring.
We do have some silliness here which is largely forgiven because it seems to be rooted in the competitor’s collegial space. The one black blot in recent years is the sometime appearance of Sophie Monk as guest judge. This is as close to a humourless non-person as one could get. Contrast this to the often appearance of Jordie, a much loved former contestant.
The heart of the thing is Brickman, the sole judge; quite honestly. I would pay for more dwelling on the builds and his review of their strengths and weaknesses.
That we don’t get as much of this as I’d like — less as the seasons go on — and the fact that we have to send loved teams away — are the only criticisms.
