Art Deco Detective (1994)

Scrambled Egg Dialog

You likely will have already been warned off this amazingly bad production. So many beginner mistakes and production drags will kill your experience.

But I have to say that there are two script ideas that are promising. The first is simply that our noir detective is not simply manipulated by the writer for our amusement; he is manipulated by on-screen characters in ways that are more clever than in subsequent mainstream movies. It involves an actress playing the twin of her dead sister, and entering the persona of an obsessive call girl. It is a brilliant idea, played well enough by the actress — who I have not seen before or since.

The other is the practiced irony in the dialog by our detective. There’s a lot of work in this, some of it very clever. But it is overused, repetitive, and not supported by what surrounds it.
