After the mysterious disappearance of their baby daughter, a young couple receives strange videos and realizes someone has been filming their daily life — even in their most intimate moments. The police set up surveillance around their home to catch the voyeur but the family starts to crumble as secrets unravel under the scrutiny of eyes watching them from all sides.

Art, seen
This film seems targeted for the ‘art film’ market. Comments focus on the deep perspective it presents, though for what varies. Lowbrow viewers remark on the pervasive surveillance state of Singapore — the municipal cameras. More arty reviewers think it is a good example of the thing I study: being an overlay of viewers of films with presumably us as viewer of film.
For some reason the emotional dynamics of this did not grab me, and you normally want that as the gateway to engagement. With that lack, the question becomes whether I appreciate the ‘artistic’ philosophical statement, the presentation on an idea level rather than emotional.
Well, no. Not today, not with the vast repertoire that went before: Rublev, Rear Window, Memento, even Cache. I suppose there are dozens I could recall that worked because they fulfilled a contract. I come prepared to open my soul, and they fill it — lover for the evening. If they turn out to be otherwise fulfilling — and sometimes soul changing — then the fact and manner are both remarkable. But you cannot fall in love, then the most self-referential hamburger is just a hamburger.
The story is that a young couple has lost their two year old. They are spied on by his mother with whom they live, and as it turns out the voyeur across the way who shares the videos he captures. The police are on both cases (the spying and kidnapping) which seem to have nothing to do with each other. The child is returned, the couple separates. She is a YouTube streamer. A new character appears and a beginning relationship.
You know what worked that was similar? “Chun King Express” changed my life. The best value from ‘Stranger Eyes’ was in recalling prior loves.
