Bottoms (2023)

Underpanty underparty

I suppose the target demographic are teens and maybe the LGB crowd. But it worked for me, an old guy. I can say that it worked in the ‘female disempowerment space’ which is now a sub-genre, and it worked far better than ‘Barbie’ did.

Like Barbie, it exists in a merger of the real world as a surrounding situation with class and gender constraints and most actions. And inside we have the world of the movie where wacky and exaggerated things occur. Lesbians comically kill an opposing football team.

And inside that we have a situation comedy. And inside that we have teen hormonal drive, but nerd girls desiring cool girls.

The plot is irrelevant other than it references ‘Fight Club’ which is the first mainstream film to use these cocooned realities. I’d rate this worth watching if it went anywhere useful. The goals it seems were simply to amuse.

I cannot say I understand the title unless it is either the bottom of the class stack, or even lewd.
