A collage crime movie from the first novel of Agatha Christie.
The Big Reveal almost made it to my list of fours, just based on its ambition. But I am returning to comments after an absence, and don’t want to be rash. It seems unlikely that you will see this, so I will uncharacteristically describe it. The...
Two hapless drifters, Frank and Bruno, team up with Linde to recover her land and trek across 1870's Southern Arizona to find an elusive frontier musician. The complex quantum time theory is blended with philosophical musings about art as the way we understand our history and memories, with gunfights, horses, dance halls, cacti, and saloons!
Overlapping Takes a bit of a philosophical stew but with naive ingredients. I don’t know how many movies we’ll get with this notion of parallel universes, each of which are occupied, or can be. But set that aside and accept it as a useful trope. In...
Film within think I have seen this plot twice before, and pretty sure one was a TeeVee movie. In that case, the orchestrator was the local police chief. What we have here is a combination of noir that turns out to be what I call a...
By a fortunate coincidence, Juan is inspired and encouraged by a girl with the same name. Therefore, he decides to form a lion dance troupe with his friends, Cat and Dog, to break the constraints of reality and fight for themselves for once.
Sacrificial may find this a bit hard to see, and I am puzzled why it has not gotten an English dubbed release in our content hungry streaming platforms. I suspect it is because it is so focused on a young Chinese audience that it would...
Determined teen Din is longing to reconnect with his childhood best friend when he meets a wish-granting dragon who shows him the magic of possibilities.
Shallow Well is not just reminiscent of ‘Aladdin’, it is a copy of hundreds of films that have come before, with no notable deviation or identity. It still has value. It is presented exceptionally well. I’ve become more accepting of repetition as I grow...
Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet's exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity's greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
Knives, Teeth, Motion am perhaps not a good demographic for this. I saw ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ when it was new, the same as Herbert. I’m a bit younger, but I went through the same study of religious traditions before Buddhisms of the new age arrived....
This is my report about a mysterious creature that "Watashi" found the year when normal came to a stop all around the globe. All over the world, people were forced to stay at home in the spring of the year; "Watashi" decided to stop commuting to the city and stayed home every day. One day, "Watashi" discovered mysterious traces in my garden. "Watashi" set up a camera to find out what it might be.
Camera as Soul of all, I am a sucker for artisanal stop motion. I’ve even elevated a few to my must see list of ‘fours’. This clearly was something from a deep emotional drive, in the only solitary film medium. The art here is remarkable because...
When the family patriarch is murdered, seven women find themselves trapped together in his mansion to solve the mystery.
Minivan to Chucky’s is a play that has been made into a movie a few times. I saw this Italian version dubbed into fairly good English. Its appeal is supposedly in the characters, and the economy of production. I’ll let others judge whether the interaction...
Storyteller and Conceptual Magician Derek DelGaudio attempts to understand the illusory nature of identity and answer the deceptively simple question 'Who am I?'
Dark Crystal Oz has always puzzled me. He is the second voice, the Garfunkle to whomever is the Simon. He is not the guy to have and manifest the primary vision, so his projects are inept. On the other hand, given a framework from a...
Little Dinners reader, you may never encounter this, an Australian series designed for tweens and their parents. 40 episodes. The setup is four 10-11 year olds set up an ‘agency’ to solve mysteries that as it happens are small by cinematic standards but loom largish in...
